Known as the king of precious stones, natural rubies are said to be even more valuable than diamonds and have been prized right throughout history and treasured for centuries by royals in the days gone by. Legends that follow this beautiful and mystical blood red stone are many and some of them are so quaint and charming. In the ancient days the Emperor of China, it is said used a ruby to give light to his chambers; and thus the name the “glowing stone” was born. Even the Bible mentions this worthy stone where Job says “wisdom is more precious than Rubies” which goes to prove that Rubies have been in existence from time immemorial.
The best and most desirable of rubies are said to be found in Thailand and Myanmar, although countries such as Afghanistan, China India and the Soviet Union are also said to have vast reservoirs of rubies of different quality and value. Wherever it is found, the blood red ruby is the rarest and most valuable of them all while those that range in colors from crimson to pink to a deep violet color are also known for their symbolic powers of life and warmth for mankind. A stone that is supposed to bring you wisdom and clarity in life, the wearer of a ruby will never lack in wealth and prosperity (obviously, a poor man cannot posses a ruby) while his fame will spread far and wide, his spirit strengthened and he will be blessed with a son which used to be considered more worthy than all the jewels in the world put together!
Being the birthstone for the month of July, according to ancient ruby myths, the lucky lover who can afford to wear a ruby close to his heart can be sure of winning the love of his life while at the same time he will be increasing his levels of energy. Health wise, not only will it help in the circulation of blood, and make you sleep like a baby, it will also control your passion and take away your nightmares so that life will appear to be more simple and allow you to focus on what is important.
Many are the ruby mysteries that have been retold many times over but this has never made them less exciting or boring. While the ruby is said to represent the sun which is the ruler among planets, it also represents power and protection from dark deeds that were said to be performed by evil forces to bring down the good and the righteous. In days long gone, the ruby known as the red stone was thought to cure bleeding while the owner of a ruby was always warned of impending tragedy through illness or death when the stone turned darker in color.
The true romantic at heart actually prefer rubies to diamonds because the eternal flame of the ruby they say never dies and will take it into eternity. Of the many beautiful ruby legends and myths that surround this blood red gem, the one that strikes a chord in the hearts of all lovers is the one that says to always treasure and care for your ruby and to never let it become lackluster through neglect.
